Latest 2025 mock draft proves Ryan Poles is done messing around
By Ryan Heckman
This season is probably not going to end with a postseason berth, no matter how badly Chicago Bears fans want to try and work out a mathematical possibility.
But, so long as Caleb Williams continues improving, there's plenty of hope. By season's end, we'll likely see the coaching staff fired and, hopefully, general manager Ryan Poles will bring in an offensive mind to take over for Matt Eberflus.
The Bears have a lot of the correct pieces in place, right now. But, for Williams to continue his ascension, Poles has to get this draft and coaching hire right. Let's operate under the assumption Poles does, indeed, get the correct coaching hire.
From there, what should he do in the upcoming draft? The strategy should be pretty clear.
Ryan Poles has the draft many Bears fans have been dreaming of in our latest 2025 mock
Poles wastes no time addressing the offensive line by going with Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. at pick no. 12 overall. The 6-foot-4, 324-pound Banks is a three-year starter with the Longhorns and brings a versatile skill set to the pros.
He's quick enough to move well in space and has experience in different run schemes with an understanding of RPO's as well. Assuming the Bears get a strong offensive mind to lead this group, Banks is everything you want for a versatile, creative scheme.
More Bears news:
Now, the Bears will have several options at tackle and can truly find the best two to help protect Caleb Williams on the outside.
At pick no. 40, the Bears get an edge rusher to pair up with Montez Sweat and the rest of the bunch, going with Alabama's LT Overton. At a towering 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, Overton has had the ability to play both inside and outside up front. But, as a Bear, he'll fit best on the outside as a powerful, but quick-footed, pass rusher.
Before making their next pick, the Bears make a trade back with the Chargers to get more capital for this year's haul.
After their trade with L.A., the Bears go back to the offensive line by snagging Georgia guard Tate Ratledge with the 56th overall selection. The Bears' biggest gaffe, over the past couple of years, has been their inability to find a legitimate starting five across the offensive line. Ratledge will come in and give the Bears another starting option at guard, regardless of what ends up happening with Teven Jenkins' health or contract in the coming months.
For the third pick in four tries, Poles once again goes offensive line here by selecting one of the better centers in the class with the no. 65 pick. Alabama's Parker Brailsford will come in and immediately fill a hole that's been a problem for a while now in Chicago. They'll finally have someone who can be their solution at center, and coming from a top SEC school like Bama, odds are in Brailsford's favor to pan out.
To round out our mock, the Bears use their second third-round pick on cornerback Dorian Strong with the no. 74 overall selection. Not to say there's a significant problem with Tyrique Stevenson, but the Bears need to be monitoring his behavior and erratic play going forward. As some added depth alongside Terell Smith, Strong gives the Bears another prominent option.
