The opinions continue to roll in about Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, and while some believe he still needs to develop, everyone agrees the potential is there for him to be one of the best players in the NFL.
Williams thrived last year in his first season with Ben Johnson as head coach, as he broke the franchise record for passing yards and led the Bears to the postseason with a division title. Many were impressed by Williams' performance, while drawing the attention of Bears legend Mike Singletary. While appearing on Up & Adams, Singletary stated that he believes Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still the best player in the NFL, with Williams right there.
“The kid in Chicago is not far behind,” Singletary said.
Mike Singletary likes Caleb Williams as one of the best players in the NFL
Williams is drawing many comparisons to Mahomes as the two play very similar styles at quarterback. While neither really runs the football, when they do, they are deceptively fast and can run around in the pocket to make incredible throws.
Singletary isn't alone in feeling that Williams might be one of the best players in the NFL. The Bears' franchise quarterback has found himself on a lot of top 10 quarterback lists going into the 2026 season, and even some like Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons have considered Williams the best player in the NFL.
Johnson still has some things he needs to work on with Williams, like the accuracy and consistency at that level. If he can get that figured out, there's no doubt Williams is going to end up being one of the best in the league soon enough.
