It only took one introductory team meeting from former Chicago Bears head coach and current New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to help Big Blue fans put their heads in their hands out of second-hand embarrassment.
In a meeting with his new players, Nagy said he wants the Giants to be "physical, tough, smart, and detailed" in 2026. Apparently, no one was thinking to do that until Nagy explicitly told them so. This is all part of Nagy's "physical at the core" philosophy that he apparently forgot to implement when he was coaching the Bears. Whoops!
Nagy, who claimed he was "psychotic" about details in a way that will make Bears fans keel over in laughter, teamed with head coach John Harbaugh for a motivational speech that probably isn't going to get fans ready to run through a wall due to a lack of enthusiasm. These sorts of moments seem familiar for fans who lived through the dark times at the end of his tenure.

Nagy wasn't a terrible coach, as he managed to go 25-13 in games where Mitch Trubisky started, but he certainly left some meat on the bone. What became perfectly clear near the end of his tenure was the fact that his message in the locker room was starting to run dry and players weren't totally bought in.
Nagy's whole "Be You" shtick and his penchant for uncorking wild trick plays from unusual formations are very endearing when his teams are winning. When they start losing, that's when the cracks start to show. With how poorly he performed as Kansas City Chiefs OC in 2025, Nagy's pithy sayings likely don't carry the weight they once did.
Even when his teams are winning, Nagy isn't necessarily a beloved figure. Asking any Chiefs fan what they thought about Nagy will likely earn you a shower of spit and bile as they get done with an explosive rant. Giants fans seemingly weren't thrilled with the decision to hire Nagy in the first place, and he hasn't won them over yet.

Bears fans are out of the Nagy business for good, and their most recent offensive wunderkind hire, Ben Johnson, seems to have established a more sustainable culture due to the superb play of him and Caleb Williams. Giants fans may end up sounding an awful lot like Bears fans in 2021 when evaluating Nagy.
