Just how bad have the Chicago Bears been over the last 10 years?

This is the slowest time of the year for the NFL. We are a couple of weeks away from the start of training camp. Until then, I wouldn't expect any big news. Although, it's still possible that Ryan Poles adds a body or two to the roster. I know everyone is hoping for a defensive end upgrade, but that does not seem as likely as it did a few weeks ago.

Let's set aside the roster for a minute. In fact, let's not even discuss the current team at all. Instead, I want to take a look back over the last decade and see just how bad this team has been during that span.

The Chicago Bears have not had a great run over the last 10 years. We are close to the start of the 2023 season -- that's nearly 40 years since the Bears won a Super Bowl and 17 years since they have been in a Super Bowl. The closest the Bears have been able to achieve success over the last 10 years was in 2018 when we all thought the Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky era would amount to more. Unfortunately, that success was very short-lived.

The Chicago Bears have not made things fun for fans lately

What sparked my interest in looking back at the last 10 years was this tweet that showed the records of each NFC team during that time frame. The Chicago Bears have been a historically successful team in the NFL, but not as of late.

Out of the 16 teams in the NFC, the Chicago Bears have the third-worst record over the last 10 years. A record of 64-98 is obviously not great. The Bears made the playoffs twice during that span. As much as we love to hate on the Lions for being a trash organization, they have been slightly better over the last decade. The Lions also only made the playoffs twice, but they have had four winning seasons while the Bears have only had one. The Lions have finished fourth in the NFC North four times while the Bears have been in that same spot five times. As you can see...it has been rough.

To make matters worse, the Vikings have a winning record of 90-70-2 over the last 10 years and the Packers have the second-best record over the last 10 years at 100-60-2. Bears fans deserve better and the Ryan Poles era needs to find a way to win. Last season was the tear-down season and it was fine that they only won three games. Now, we need to see growth in the win column too. We need to see sustained success going forward and that will all rest on the development and success of Justin Fields. This is the start of a new time and the Bears need to be relevant again.
