After having zero catches in the 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9, fans were quick to get emotional about Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze not having an impact on the game.
It led to one person posting about the Bears needing to trade him, an apparent overreaction, but got support from Odunze's dad after he reposted it with a bullseye emoji. This certainly caused quite a stir, as the Bears' wide receiver had to answer for his father's actions and made sure to defend him.
"I don’t make a big deal out of it. Obviously, he has his opinions and I have mine. And he feels like he needs to voice those things on social media. That’s his prerogative. But he speaks for himself. I speak for myself."
"At the end of the day, he’s a Rome fan. He’s in full support of Rome Odunze. So that’s first and foremost for him. But I love my Pops."
Don't expect that to happen anymore with Odunze
Games like that happen in the NFL, where a wide receiver might not make an impact. It's the nature of the business as players have good and bad games.
Odunze is still one of the top rising wide receivers in the NFL, and the Bears know they need to get him more involved. This season, he's caught 31 passes for 473 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.
What was impressive about his play against the Bengals was that even though he didn't get a catch in the game, he was still making an impact on the game. The Bears' social media team shared highlights of Odunze's blocking abilities, showcasing him as the selfless player fans in Chicago have come to love.

Odunze has plenty of time to play catch-up on the stat sheet and have a career season. It would be a surprise if he has another game like that for a long time.
