Stephen A. Smith just endorsed Troy Aikman's wild criticism of the Bears

Of course he did.

Since the Chicago Bears' Monday Night Football victory over the Washington Commanders, much has been made about broadcaster Troy Aikman and everything he said throughout the night while on the air.

One of the most notable quotes coming from the former NFL quarterback came after D'Andre Swift's long touchdown in which Aikman referred to it as "lucky."

Of course, this didn't go without response on the Bears' end. Caleb Williams took to his social media account and quietly clapped back at Aikman. Head coach Ben Johnson also responded in a subtle way of his own.

And, in classic ESPN fashion, Stephen A. Smith figured he had to chime in on the whole saga by saying, well, a whole lot of things that didn't fully make sense.

Of course Stephen A. Smith jumped in on the Caleb Williams-Troy Aikman banter

First, Smith did actually give props to the Bears and thinks they're in the thick of the race, competitively speaking. But, in the same breath, Smith supported what Aikman had to say about them.

"Chicago is right there. I think they're on the come-up ... I listened to Troy Aikman. I get it. I'm not refuting anything he said," Smith said on the air.

"He has every right to point out what he pointed out. And I ain't here to refute no damn Troy Aikman, let me be very clear. He's right with what he says," he went on.

If Smith were to have come out and specifically stated what words he agreed with, from Aikman's point of view, then maybe we're having a different conversation here. But, from the sound of it, Smith is agreeing with all of Aikman's sentiments, even the "lucky" comment, which is hilarious.

Leave it to the national media to get on board with pulling the rug from beneath the Bears after a win. Whether it's Aikman or Smith, the reality is, Chicago has been an easy franchise to keep at the butt of jokes for a while now.

That said, Smith did give his endorsement to Caleb Williams and believes people should only judge him based off what he's doing under Ben Johnson, and not based on his rookie campaign which saw him juggle multiple coaches and coordinators throughout the season.

"I'm just saying, it's early. You want to judge Caleb Williams? Judge him now that he's got Ben Johnson ... I think that man can coach. I really do," Smith finished.
