Tom Brady says the quiet part out loud about Caleb Williams' inaccuracy issues

He's not wrong.

While the Chicago Bears have been one of the NFL's great stories this season, a lot has been made of quarterback Caleb Williams' inaccuracy.

That has been on full display over the last month plus, as Williams has not completed 60% or more of his passes in a game since the October Baltimore Ravens game. He is now well below 60% for the season in completion percentage and remains a topic of conversation in NFL circles.

While appearing on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," FOX NFL broadcast, Tom Brady was asked about Williams inaccuracies and whether it is a big issue for him and other quarterbacks with similar problems. While Brady did say they could use their different skill sets, he was honest about the challenges of not being accurate when the postseason rolls around.

"I always care about accuracy from a quarterback standpoint because when you get to bigger games in the playoffs, and the defenses are better in the margin error is less, you have to be an incredibly accurate passer.

I think there's a lot of ways to get the job done at quarterback. You see a lot of guys in the NFL, different skill sets. I do believe it's a passing league. It always has been. It always will be. You can benefit from a great running game, but when the rubber meets the road and you're in big time moments and you're in games where it's very contested, you're going against a team that's at the similar pedigree, you better be an elite passer, and elite processor, you better have great intangibles and resilience built up in you to be the leader of that team and when I watch different guys play, I see Patrick Mahomes has that, Josh Allen has that, Jared Goff has that, Matthew Stafford has that, Lamar Jackson has that. There's a lot of guys that I love their style of play, the inaccurate guys they have to work really hard at their craft to be better."

Williams has to improve his accuracy before the postseason

This season, Williams has completed just 57.8% of his passes for 2,908 yards and 19 touchdowns to six interceptions. He's also run for 321 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

There have been some great throws from Williams, including the one Brady loved so much in the 28-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 14 when Williams somehow got the ball to Olamide Zaccheaus in the end zone for the touchdown. Those are the type of throws that make people excited about Williams.

The problem is that he continues to have games where he can barely hit his receivers with accuracy. Those passes are either being overthrown, underthrown, behind, or too much in front. There's never really any in between.

Before the season, Bears head coach Ben Johnson had a goal for Williams to hit 70% of his passes by the end of the season. It's safe to assume he will hit well below that goal.

At this point in the season, it might be too late to fix something like that in four weeks before the postseason. Johnson will have to get creative on how to win these games despite Williams' accuracy issues.
