When looking back at the 2024 NFL Draft many, many years from now, Chicago Bears fans should hopefully be able to do so fondly. The Bears took Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, and he was one of five quarterbacks who went in the first round.
In fact, when others are looking back at the 2024 draft, they'll probably remember this quarterback class quite well. One pick after Williams went off the board, the Commanders took Jayden Daniels, and one pick later, the Patriots selected Drake Maye. At pick 12, the Broncos took Bo Nix. Williams led the Bears to their first division title since 2018, Daniels has been to an NFC Championship, Maye played in a Super Bowl, and Nix had his Broncos on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance.
The only team to strike out with their first-round quarterback from 2024 so far is the Minnesota Vikings, who selected Michigan's J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick. Bears fans got to hear all about how McCarthy was the Vikings' franchise guy when he came from behind to beat them in Week 1 this past season, but since then, it's been pretty much all downhill for the guy.
This offseason, the Vikings signed Kyler Murray to compete with McCarthy (and likely steal) the starting quarterback job in Minneapolis. Murray appears to be leaps and bounds ahead of McCarthy this summer, and things have gotten so bad that the fans aren't being quiet about their disappointment for the former 10th overall pick.

According to Kevin Seifert of ESPN, there was "an audible murmur" from Vikings fans in attendance during Tuesday's practice after McCarthy had three straight overthrows. That might be the least of McCarthy's concerns, however, as Jason Harmon of Vikings on SI reports that one fan was absolutely livid with the young quarterback.

Now, name-calling isn’t cool, and we obviously don’t condone that. What is fair to question, however, is the Vikings’ continued struggles to get it right at quarterback, which could once again be the case with J.J. McCarthy. He's not performing well in training camp, and after a rough 2025 season, it makes sense that Vikings fans would be fed up with him.
It's great knowing that not only have the Bears reaped the benefits of the 2024 quarterback draft class, but the Vikings haven't either. What a major whiff on their part.

While the Bears have enjoyed watching Williams take the organization to new heights, Vikings fans have remained in quarterback purgatory. It's a beautiful sight, isn't it?
