Bears vs Browns Preview – What I’ll Be Saying Goodbye To
The Bears wrap up their preseason schedule by hosting the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. All preseason games are meaningless, but the last preseason game is especially a waste of time. The key guys like Urlacher and Cutler will be sitting and if they’re not, they should be. Here are the few things I’ll be watching and saying goodbye to: Caleb Hanie – hopefully Thursday is the last time we see Hanie this season. If that’s the case, it’s because Cutler has stayed healthy and the offensive line is doing their job. If Mike Martz has his way, Hanie [...]
Hello World, It’s A Nice Day for a White Wedding
Sometimes, late at night, when the whole world is sleeping, I lie awake and wonder why Jay Cutler decided to call off Chicago’s would-be version of the Royal Wedding. It’s sad, really. Then it hits me — he’s totally making a play for Lo! Ah, yes, those two would be perfect together. He’s the strong, silent type. She loves kittens. Does anybody still have a clue of what I’m talking about? You do? Let’s be friends!
Projecting the 2011 Bears Final 53 Man Roster
We’re just days away from final cutdowns and with 27 heads set to roll (or 26 if you count Chester Taylor’s head already pre-rolled), there’s still a lot of work to do for the Bears front office. Let’s see if we can give them a hand and project the final 53-man roster: Quarterbacks (3): Jay Cutler, Caleb Hanie, Nathan Enderle No big surprises here. I’d be shocked if they risked putting Enderle on waivers to try to sneak him onto the practice squad. Obviously everyone needs to get through Thursday night’s game against the Browns or the could be shopping [...]
Bears Need to Bring Back Alex Brown
They say you can’t go home again, but the Bears have a chance to let Alex Brown come home again. The former Saint was released today and is looking for work. With some weak spots at the defensive end position and Corey Wootton rehabbing from a preseason knee injury, the Bears would be stupid not to bring Brown in for a look-see. Brown was unceremoniously let go last offseason in a cost cutting move much to the chagrin of many Bears fans. AB was a fan favorite and most salivated at the chance to see Brown play opposite big 2010 [...]
A Reading from the First Letter of Ditka to Briggs When the disciple Briggs called to Papa Bear for a new covenant, Da Coach got word of da blasphemy and struck him down on The Waddle and Silvy Show. “You can’t do it,” Ditka said on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” Monday on ESPN 1000. “I mean you just can’t do it. The Bears aren’t going to do it. Anybody in their right mind wouldn’t do it. If you do it, you’re a fool.” Ditka said it would set a bad precedent for the Bears to give in to Briggs. [...]
Maybe the reason for the breakup is that Jay Cutler didn’t want his bride-to-be in the arms of another man. It turns out Kristin Cavallari will be joining the cast of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” for their upcoming 13th season: ABC has unveiled its next batch of celebrities who will quick-step their way through the 13th season on “Dancing with the Stars” — very few of them household names. Slated to compete for the mirrorball trophy are Chaz Bono, currently nominated for three Emmys for the documentary “Becoming Chaz,” which chronicled Bono’s sex change; prosecutor-turned-HLN host Nancy Grace; former [...]
The Bears had to cut five players to get down to the mandatory 80 player limit by Tuesday. Headlining the first round of cuts is defensive end and Jets reclamation project Vernon Gholston. When the Bears brought Gloston in, the belief was that a chance of scheme – Lovie Smith’s 4-3 Cover-2 defense – as well as a change of scenery might help for former Top 10 draft pick. I guess that hope, along with Gholston, is gone. He failed to impress in the preseason and did not generate enough pressure off the edge to merit keeping him around. With [...]
Bears Fall to Titans 14-13 – Delayed Reaction
Hey gang, sorry for the delayed reaction. After spending a weekend away with the family, I’m catching up on the Bears’ third preseason game, a 14-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans. As we say repeatedly in preseason games, the numbers on the scoreboard don’t matter nearly as much as how the starters play and getting out cleanly without any serious injuries. For the most part, I’d say they did well in those areas. The starting offense did a decent job, moving the ball well and converting third downs while keeping Jay Cutler relatively clean. It’s really interesting to see how [...]
