November 13th Bears vs Lions Game Moved to 3:15
The Detroit Lions make their first trip to Soldier Field since the 2010 season opener, “process of the catch” fiasco on November 13th. Since both the Lions and Bears are in the thick of the NFC playoff race, Fox has decided to move kickoff back to 3:15 Central to make the game the featured late game in the double header package. It’s good news for me because I have a conflict earlier in the day on the 13th. My brother and his wife have honored me in making me the godfather to their first son Emmett and the baptism is [...]
Happy Halloween from Bear Goggles On
Bears Franchising Matt Forte?
Clipped from: espn.go.com (share this clip) If you were hoping that the Bears and Matt Forte find some common ground over the bye week and get a contract extension worked out, guess again. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that barring a major breakthrough between now and February, the Bears will use the Franchise tag on Matt Forte. Forte isn’t too excited about the prospect.
Handicapping NFL Week 8: Picks of the Week
Another 4-1 week. As happy as I was with back-to-back 4-1 weeks, I was most disappointed with Baltimore last week. I did enough of a soapbox speech last week about gambling, so let’s just get into last’s weeks picks. SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK: I knew that Pittsburgh would come back and take care of Arizona after not covering against Jacksonville the week before, even though they were on the road. I predicted a 27-10 Dallas win, which wasn’t far off the 34 -7 thumping over the Rams. It was the “good” Dallas team as planned. The Baltimore loss absolutely was [...]
Recommended Viewing for Bears Bye Week
The Bears are on a bye on Sunday but while they rest up, there is still plenty of NFL action going on. Aside from some required extra family time, recovering from that crazy Halloween party or standard fantasy football rooting, there are still plenty of good games to watch. Here’s my recommended viewing on a Bears bye week: The Early Games Minnesota at Carolina – neither of these teams figures into the playoff picture, but it’s always fun to root against the Vikings. Miami at New York Giants – the G-Men currently sit atop the NFC East, but the Eagles [...]
Surprising Look Inside Bears Snap Count
Sean Jensen does some excellent work breaking down the Bears’ offensive and defensive snaps for each player and there are quite a few surprises. Here’s a look at the offensive breakdown: OFFENSE 1) Roberto Garza, J’Marcus Webb and Chris Williams with 459 snaps. 2) Jay Cutler with 453 snaps. 3) Matt Forte with 372 snaps. 4) Devin Hester with 348 snaps. 5) Chris Spencer with 342 snaps. 6) Kellen Davis with 323 snaps. 7) Lance Louis with 276 snaps. Johnny Knox with 273 snaps. 9) Dane Sanzenbacher with 240 snaps. 10) Frank Omiyale with 181 snaps. 11) Roy Williams with [...]
The DeCon’s Fantasy Football Picks – Week 8
Well, the Beloved are on a bye this week and generally I commit to Mrs. DeCon that I will have a bye week from watching football too, but things are heating up fantasy-wise. Lots of RBs hurt last week and still more that likely will be out this week from lingering injuries, not to mention bye weeks, so playing the waiver wire is critical. Check out my picks for this week…on the other side…
Breaking – Bears Release Chris Harris
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Chicago Bears have released veteran safety Chris Harris. It’s not totally shocking considering he got demoted and couple of weeks ago and subsequently asked for a trade just a day before the trade deadline. Harris hasn’t had his best season and it’s been reported that he’s been in Lovie’s doghouse since Week 1 against Atlanta, but given the Bears’ struggles at safety, it’s still an interesting move. I don’t know who the Bears will bring in off the street that will be better than Harris, but they did work [...]
