3 Chicago Bears coaches land on the future head coaching watch list

Richard Hightower was another Chicago Bears coach to make the list

Richard Hightower found his name on the list as a future head coach too. The difference here is that Tom Pelissero has Hightower in the second part of the list — those who are possible head coaching candidates in years after the next coaching cycle.

To be honest, I was surprised to see Hightower’s name on this list. Hightower’s special teams units weren’t great in San Francisco outside of the NFC Championship game against the Packers. The Chicago Bears special teams unit was doing well until a few weeks ago. Now, they find themselves ranked 13th in DVOA. That’s just not good enough to find his way from a special teams coordinator to a head coach.

Is it possible that Hightower improves and finds his way into a head coaching spot? Of course. Do I find it likely? No. When I think of this team, I thought I’d see Alan Williams (defensive coordinator) on this list before ever thinking I’d see Hightower.
