Chicago Bears fans are asking the $1 million question: what was the team doing in the bye week?
The hope was that the bye week could be used to get healthy after suffering injury after injury over the first four games of the regular season. That doesn't appear to be the case. In fact, there are more injuries than there were the last time they shared such a list.
Chicago shared the first Week 6 injury report, which includes a plethora of players banged up. A total of 11 players were on the list; four of them did not practice.
Player Name, Position | Injury | Practice Status |
---|---|---|
Jaquan Brisker, DB | Quad | DNP |
Grady Jarrett, DL | Knee | DNP |
Kyle Monangai, RB | Thigh | DNP |
Darnell Wright, OL | Elbow | DNP |
Colston Loveland, TE | Hip | Limited |
Kyler Gordon, CB | Hamstring | Limited |
Jonah Jackson, OL | Rib | Limited |
Austin Booker, DL | Knee | Full |
T.J. Edwards, LB | Hamstring | Full |
Travis Homer, RB | Calf | Full |
Cairo Santos, K | Right Thigh | Full |
Let's try to get through all these injuries for Chicago
There are two new injuries that were not known about this week: Monangai is dealing with a thigh injury, while Brisker hurt his quad. Monangai was banged up during training camp and the beginning of the regular season as well. Brisker missed all but five games last year with a concussion.
Jarrett and Wright continue not to participate in practice, just as they didn't the week of the Las Vegas Raiders game. While reinforcements are coming on the defensive line, Wright's injury could result in rookie Ozzy Trapilo getting his first career start against the Washington Commanders after putting up a stellar performance against the Raiders two weeks ago.
The good news is that guys like Gordon, Loveland, Edwards, Booker, and Homer, who all have missed one or more games, are practicing. That will significantly help with the depth on defense, mostly, and Homer could be the replacement for Monangai if he can't play against Washington.
Santos' update is good because he fully practiced. Many were worried that he might have to sit out in favor of Jake Moody, who struggled in his one game this season with the San Francisco 49ers.

There's still a few days until the game, but this is not the greatest look for the team that needs a signature win this season.
