We refuse to overreact to a dominant Chicago Bears win, but it sure was fun watching them bury the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. For head coach Ben Johnson, it was his first win in Chicago and had the locker room buzzing.
This wasn't just Johnson's first win as the Bears head coach. It was also the first time his creativity truly shined within the Bears' offense. Everything was clicking. Everything was working. Caleb Williams was kept clean and delivered a strong performance.
We even saw Johnson break out the bag with a flea flicker trick play that went for a 65-yard touchdown to Luther Burden III. Truly, it was all working.
It was working so well that fans may have not even noticed but the Bears never even used a timeout. It sounds crazy. It doesn't sound real. But, Johnson never once called a timeout in this game.
Ben Johnson pulled something off that Bears fans never saw from Matt Eberflus
Considering who was on the other sideline, this is absolutely hilarious if you think about it.
The Cowboys have Matt Eberflus running their defense (if that's what you want to call it), now, after he was fired by the Bears. Eberflus' defense looked lost all game. It was clear Johnson had the upper hand and, by the looks of Chicago never having to use a timeout, the Bears head coach made it look easy.
Again, on the opposite sideline was a coach who had no idea how to manage time when he was with the Bears. If you asked fans about their worst memory when it came to Eberflus, the obvious answer might be the Thanksgiving Day debacle that happened in Detroit last season.
The incompetence from Eberflus reached a new level each week, it seemed. There were no excuses for Eberflus to misuse timeouts over and over again. And, we haven't even touched on Eberflus' comical challenges.
The man couldn't figure out when to use a challenge to save his life.
Back to Johnson. To not use a single timeout in the presence of Eberflus is just straight-up savagery. It definitely wasn't intentional, as that doesn't seem like the type of person Johnson is. This was just a bizarre coincidence.
