The Chicago Bears' backfield just saw one less player suiting up for them in the 2026 season.
After the announcement that the Bears had signed former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed to the roster, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on how the Bears had to make room for Ahmed on the roster. That came in the form of Chicago waiving fellow running back Deion Hankins.
Last year, Haskins spent time with the Bears in training camp and played in two preseason games. He rushed for 33 yards on 10 carries, with his longest run bringing 12 yards.

It was an expected move for the Bears to let someone go since they also signed safety Anthony Johnson Jr. to the roster. They needed to get back to 90 players before they underwent OTAs.
Hankins showed potential in the preseason last season, but was outplayed by Brittain Brown and Ian Wheeler. Brown is still on the roster while Wheeler plays in the United Football League for the Louisville Kings as one of their starting running backs. Whether this is the end for Hankins in the NFL remains to be seen.
For the moment, Kyle Monangai and D'Andre Swift are the top backs and should split time. There will be a battle for the RB3 and RB4 jobs between Ahmed, Brown, undrafted rookie Coleman Bennett, and Roschon Johnson.
Based on last season, Johnson and Brown should have the advantage in winning those final two roster spots at running back. Ahmed has not played in a regular season game since 2023, and Bennett is a long shot to make the roster.
