There has been quite a run lately in the sports media world, talking and sharing their opinions on Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.

Some, like ESPN's Dan Orlovsky and Bart Scott, are not even seeing Williams as a top two quarterback in the NFC North, while Colin Cowherd and Mike Florio consider him a top three quarterback in the NFL right now. Radio host Jim Rome asked former Bears legend Kyle Long his thoughts on Williams, and of course, he comes through with some impressive thoughts on the third-year signal caller.

"I think that watching him as a young player deal with the media reminds me of a lot of Sir Nick Faldo sitting down with Tiger Woods, I believe in his first Masters and he said, 'What are you looking to shoot out there?' and he said 'I'm looking to win this whole thing,' and he said 'You'll learn young man,' and he said, 'Well, if I'm not looking to win, why the hell am I here?' Ayrton Senna, one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, said, "He who does not go for the gap is no longer a racing driver.' Caleb Williams is a racecar driver, and I can't wait to watch that guy mature in the league. We're lucky to have him. The star power is heavy in that NFC North."

Kyle Long is impressed with what Caleb Williams had done so far

Too many times, we focus on the franchise-breaking stats, but Williams is doing so much more than that for the Bears. He has shown on the field that he can make every possible throw and some that even the top five quarterbacks in the league can't make.

What might be even more impressive is how Williams conducts himself as a leader, which was a big focus for Bears head coach Ben Johnson last year. In 2024, Williams showed his frustration too much, and it was too much. This past season, though, he did a much better job of balancing showing his emotions with being a calm leader and talking to his teammates.

Not enough people give him credit for the work he has done in working on that part of his game as a quarterback, and it shows on the field. The Bears went 11-6 and made a small run in the playoffs because of Williams and the way he carries himself as the face of the franchise. Nobody ever hears anything bad about him off the field, as he has instead done great work in the Chicago community, pursued smart business ventures, and still finds time to work out with his teammates to prepare for 2026.

Bears fans should be encouraged to have Williams as their leader, as he is proving each day that he is the right man for the job.
