The Chicago Bears had quite an interesting 2026 draft class, leaving many fans wondering whether they got it right with their picks.
One of the most polarizing selections in the draft was LSU wide receiver Zavion Thomas in the third round, as he was projected to be a Day 3 selection and had some questions about him as a pass catcher. Bears special teams coordinator Richard Hightower might have given fans in the Windy City a reason to be excited about the rookie after he shared the first question Thomas asked him.
“Why coach do most rookies not succeed in the NFL? What holds them back?" Hightower said via ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
Zavion Thomas is ready to take his game to the next level
Hightower praised Thomas for his speed and his ability to catch the football. The Bears' special teams coach also talked about how the rookie looked so natural on offense and special teams in his short time there.
Thomas ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash and was one of the fastest players in the draft class. His speed is insane, and Bears general manager Ryan Poles has already said Thomas will be used more on special teams in his rookie campaign.
While wide receiver and returner will be Thomas's primary jobs on the team, there's a chance he might do more than that in 2026. There were reports that Thomas was lining up in the backfield as a running back in the Bears' rookie minicamp, leaving the possibility that he could play the role that DJ Moore played last year before he was traded to the Buffalo Bills during the offseason.

The kind of weapon Thomas can be in this offense is insane to think about, as he is already showing the fan base he is serious about making an immediate impact.
