It was right there for the taking for the Chicago Bears, but they ultimately couldn't finish off the Green Bay Packers as they lost 28-21 in Week 14.
One play defined the outcome of the game with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams' interception. On fourth-and-one with under 30 seconds left, Williams rolled out to throw it in the end zone for tight end Cole Kmet, but it was underthrown and picked.
When asked about the interception after the game, Kmet was honest with the media.
“I thought it was pretty open,” Kmet said via The Athletic's Dan Wiederer.
“There are a million other things going on that Caleb has to dissect in front of him," Kmet said. "But yeah. Just a tough way to end it, obviously.”
Brutal outcome to what could of been a game-changing win
If Williams had put more air on the ball and placed it in the right spot, Kmet would have caught the touchdown easily, and it would have come down to one decision afterwards. Many believe that if the Bears had scored a touchdown, head coach Ben Johnson would have elected to go for the two-point conversion to win the game.
That hypothetical doesn't mean anything, as the Bears now have a 9-4 record and went from first place in the NFC North and the NFC to second in the NFC North and the seventh seed in the NFC playoffs. It also means the Bears are 1-3 in the division, a record they can't afford to be in this late in the season.
All the talk will be about Johnson's clock management at the end, and Williams's inaccuracies finally costing them a football game. This can be chalked up to a couple of young guys developing in their new roles, but most will feel like an opportunity was squandered when they needed it most.

At the very least, the Bears have a chance to have a good bounce-back performance against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 to try to get to 10 wins on the season, but more has to be done if they want to be in the NFC playoffs in January.
