This offseason has brought on a lot of questions the Chicago Bears need to answer about the current roster as they face a situation where they need to create some much-needed cap space with just $1 million to work with.

One suggestion has been for the team to decide on giving right tackle Darnell Wright a contract extension after being selected as a second-team All-Pro for the first time in 2025. One stat might make that decision a lot easier for the team.

PFSN shared the stat on NFL offensive tackles with the lowest pressure rates allowed in 2025. Wright finished fifth on the list with 3.2%.

Darnell Wright is more than deserving of a new contract

Last season, Wright was graded out by Pro Football Focus as one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL, as he got an 81.4, ranking 14th out of 89 offensive tackles in the league. He allowed 19 pressures, three quarterback hits, and three sacks in 638 pass blocking snaps last year. One issue with him, though, was that he was called for 12 penalties in the year.

The Bears are entering the year where they need to decide on whether they will pick up Wright's fifth-year option and make sure he is locked in for the 2027 season. They could also go after and give him a massive contract extension to stay beyond that.

ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin has already reported that one of the top priorities for the team is to get some kind of deal done with Wright long-term. They value what he has brought to the team, given his improvement over the last few years on the line.

After all the movement of the offensive line, keeping Wright long term is the only smart to make so that they don't have to make any other replacements.
