RE-UPDATED 3/30/09

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Zach Best, NFL Mocks, the site of the WORST MAN DRAFTED TOURNAMENT, is back up and running.  Vote for McClown and Enis by following the links below.

The Worst Man Drafted Tournament to crown the all-time biggest draft bust has begun over on nflmocks.com.  The intro, with a nod to yours truly for coming up with the whole idea is here.  Vote for #4 seed Curtis Enis in the West region here.  And most importantly, vote for #8 seed Cade McNown here.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a say in the seeding or brackets, because I would have pushed [...]

Would You Rather?

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Bears fans, let’s play a little game called Would You Rather?  A lot has been made recently about the alleged availability of disgruntled Denver QB Jay Cutler.  I have been among many that have called for the Bears and Jerry Angelo to put together a “whatever it takes” package to go get a 26-year old Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback entering the prime of his career. Sure, he’s acting like a diva with the way new Head Coach Josh McDaniels handled the Matt Cassel situation, but I seem to recall a certain “Punky QB” that roamed the sidelines in the 80’s that [...]

Mock Draft – Andre Smith?

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Bears, Draft, NFL | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I was participating in a Fansided Network Mock Draft today and had to make a tough decision.  I don’t want to steal my own thunder with whom I selected, but Alabama OT Andre Smith, once thought to be a possibility as the #1 overall selection, was sitting there at #18 when I had my Jerry Angelo hat on.  I called my long-time guy Louie and asked, “Do I dare?”  He responded with a resounding “HELL NO!  He’s a fatter, lazier Stan Thomas!”  Here’s the scarier question:  what if this happens in real life (as opposed to fake life) and Andre [...]

Your Wonderlic: Where do you rank Bears fans?

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Draft, NFL | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Ever wonder about your Wonderlic?  No, dirty, nothing like that.  In case you don’t know, the Wonderlic is an intelligence test administered to NFL prospects.  It is comprised of 50 questions and a 12 minute time limit.   1 point is awarded for each correct answer, so top score is 50.
Dan Pompei reported on some of the leaked scores earlier this week in the Chicago Tribune.  It got me to wondering about how I would rank among the likes of Georgia Quarterback Matthew Stafford and his 38 or North Carolina Wide Receiver Hakeem Nicks and the 11 that he posted.  By [...]

LOWER THE BOOM – New NFL Rules Make Dick Butkus Cry!

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Bears, Commentary, Lower the Boom, NFL, News, Video | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

NFL owners have passed 4 new rules to bolster “player safety” and modified another rule that will be known hereafter as the “Tom Brady” rule.   From the nfl.com article:
» The initial force of a blindside block can’t be delivered by a helmet, forearm or shoulder to an opponent’s head or neck.  An illegal blindside block will bring a 15-yard penalty.
» Initial contact to the head of a defenseless receiver also will draw a 15-yard penalty. “Our clear movement is to getting out of the striking in the head area,” Pereira said. “We’re reading about injuries that say spinal and vertebrae. [...]

Bears add compensatory draft picks – Angelo rejoices

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: None Yet

Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo was spotted doing cartwheels at the news that the Bears were awarded three additional picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.   The picks fall right in Jerry’s drafting wheelhouse, getting an extra 3rd rounder (#99 overall) as compensation for Bernard Berrian’s departure and two 7th rounders (#’s 246 and 251 overall) to make up for Brendan Ayanbadejo and John Gilmoreleaving via Free Agency last offseason.

Bears in Prime Time during Kickoff Weekend

AUTHOR: Boomer | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Chicago Bears will renew their rivalry with the rivals from north of the cheddar curtain for the 178th time as a part of the NFL’s kickoff weekend.  The Beloved head north to Lambeau Field to square off with the Packers for a Sunday night affair on September 13th. The weather should be in stark contrast to the last meeting, which the Bears won 20-17 in the coldest game in Soldier Field’s history.

For complete details of the prime time schedule that has been released, click here.
My first reaction in glancing at the first games is that Green Bay and Oakland [...]
