ESPN’s NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert has been selecting some of the NFC North’s bests, like Best Mascot (Rangor of the Vikings), Best Nickname (B.J. Raji’s The Freezer) and Best Rivalry (Bears-Packers – duh!). The Bears distinguished themselves in a handful of categories. Best Tweeter – Chris Harris The NFC North is packed with social media mavens. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, for instance, entertains the masses with “Jack Handey” quotes whenever he’s sitting in an airport. But Harris is probably the most prolific in our division, using Twitter to post serious thoughts on important NFL issues at one moment and [...]
Former Chicago Bears Among Best Mustaches in NFL History
Can you tell we’re in the dog days of the lockout yet? After a release of a new commercial featuring a pair of mustachioed Manning Brothers as Football Cops, NFL.com put together a list of the Top Mustaches in NFL history. It should come as no surprise that the Chicago Bears figured prominently in the list. Check out the Manning video and then check out the top ‘staches after the jump.
A huge part of last season’s free agent spending spree – after the big bucks doled out to Julius Peppers – was tight end Brandon Manumaleuna. Mike Martz made no bones about the fact the in his offense the tight end needed to put his hand on the ground and block. You know, the exact opposite of incumbent starter Greg Olsen. It was believed the 300 pound Manumaleuna would serve as another tackle to help protect Jay Cutler. According to the fine folks at Pro Football Focus, Manumaleuna was THE WORST BLOCKING TIGHT END IN THE NFL. I know that’s [...]
Chicago Bears’ 1st round draft pick Gabe Carimi made an appearance on NFL Network where he covered a wide range of topics. First of all, you have to check out the video clip of Carimi and make sure you hang with the short clip until the end where Carimi demonstrates not only great technique but a great understanding of the game. I hope I’m not getting ahead of myself when I say that I think we have a winner here Bears fans. Not only does Carimi get the technical parts of his position and the game, but he gets PR. [...]
Can Bears Repeat as NFC North Champs?
Clipped from: www.nfl.com (share this clip) I was surfing around on NFL.com today and I came across an interesting piece by analyst Elliot Harrison, where he outlined reasons why the Bears could repeat as NFC North Champions. Here are some of Mr. Harrison’s points: First off, this team is not the Headless Horseman. Cutler has top-five quarterback talent and made strides from his interception-happy campaign of 2009. If Chicago improves its performance even slightly in a few categories, this is a team that will be formidable. The Bears finished last in the NFL in 10-play drives, sacks allowed, and turning [...]
Asomugha to Lions Would Be Bad News for Bears
The NFL Free Agent feeding frenzy is on the horizon (OK, so it might be a distant horizon, but a horizon nonetheless) and one of the most sought after big fish in this market will be Nnamdi Asomgha, the all-world shutdown cornerback who is about to hit the market. One of the rumors I recently read has him going to Chicago Bears division rival, the Detroit Lions: Longtime NFL personnel man Gil Brandt, now an analyst for NFL.com, still has good insight into the inner workings of the league. And it’s his belief that the Detroit Lions could make [...]
Coach Ditka Reveals Entourage Spoiler
Da Coach appeared on ESPN’s Waddle and Silvy show the other day and he may have slipped up and revealed a spoiler for the Entourage finale in which he is set to appear. Here’s Da Coach: “This just came up spur of the moment, and actually you know, it was a good experience,” Ditka said on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “I didn’t realize how big a deal it was, I’ll be honest with you. I’m kinda naïve about those things, and I understand it is a pretty big deal, and yes, I think it is very [...]
As a part of the negotiations among the NFL owners, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the NFL will expand to a 16 game Thursday night TV package, which will add a new source of revenue. I don’t like this idea one bit. While it’s nice to have your team featured in a prime time game, the Thursday night games always put a team on a short week. It puts the visiting team at a particular disadvantage. If you ask me, it’s just the NFL’s way to try to get more people to subscribe to the NFL Network, which is [...]
