Everyone has been hopping on the Caleb Williams hype train with some of the great plays he has been able to make.

The big talk was the Williams touchdown throw to Olamide Zaccheaus during the Chicago Bears' 28-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers that even got Tom Brady to gush over the play. Those are the type of moments that have everyone excited about him, but also want to see him be more accurate with the football.

Former NFL quarterback-turned-Prime Video analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick appeared on his "Fitz and Whit" show with another former NFL player, Andrew Whitworth, to discuss Williams' play. Fitzpatrick has loved what he has seen from Williams, but he wants to see one other thing that could take him to the next level as a quarterback.

“[Caleb Williams] is a magician in the pocket … This dude throws better on the run than anyone in the NFL.”

"I would just like to see Caleb a little bit more, 'What was the play that was designed, let's see if it can be executed that way.' I think that's the next step he has to take."

Williams needs more development, but the potential is there

The accuracy problem for Williams is very real, as he has only completed 57.8% of his passes this season. He has thrown for 2,908 yards and 19 touchdowns to just six interceptions while adding three more touchdowns on the ground.

What's helped Williams mask his accuracy issues is his ability to make plays with his legs and scramble out of the pocket. Compared to last year, he is making smarter decisions with the football, resulting in fewer turnovers and fewer sacks than in 2024.

Williams has some ways to go in his development, but his clutch gene has helped the Bears time and time again this season. He's led five game-winning drives this season for Chicago.

If Bears head coach Ben Johnson can get Williams to be more on-target with his throws, Chicago will be in a much better position come the postseason. There's still plenty to be excited about with Williams, though.
