Major Accomplishment: All Bears Draft Picks Signed

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: None Yet

I’m going to start calling Chicago Bears chief contract negotiator Cliff Stein Dudley Do-Right because he always gets his man.  Yesterday Stein accomplished his goal of having all rookies signed by May 28th.  It was close, but the Bears’ first pick, third rounder Major Wright inked a 4-year deal to get everyone signed by Stein’s self-imposed deadline. Even though the Bears didn’t have a first or second round pick, where the big money and tough negotiations prevail, it’s nice to know that the Bears start the summer and next week’s OTA’s with everyone signed and ready to go.  This marks [...]

Today’s NFL Moves Ditka to Tears

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

When I was a little kid, my parents would tell me that it wasn’t raining, it was God crying.  Well, it wasn’t a passing rain shower in Chicago recently.  Instead, Da Coach was moved to tears when discussing today’s NFL in a recent Sports Illustrated interview with Jeff Pearlman: A couple of weeks ago, as I was interviewing him for a book project, Mike Ditka looked me in the eye and began to cry. He was talking about loyalty; about football in 2010 and how nobody who plays the game and nobody who coaches the game and nobody who owns [...]

Bears Defense Exposed: Beating the Cover-2

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Matt Bowen is bringing it at the National Football Post.  As a former player, he offers the type of X’s and O’s insight that helps hard core fans get an even better view of what’s going on between the white lines on Sundays.  A couple of weeks ago, he told us all about the Cover-2 defense.  I am happy to ride his coattails and put a little extra Bears spin on his analysis. In the latest entry in his Inside the Playbook series, Bowen offers some insight on how to beat the Cover-2 defense.   As Bears fans, we had a [...]

BEST TEAM should host Super Bowl

AUTHOR: | IN: Commentary | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

NFL owners voted to play the 2014 Super Bowl – XLVIII for your Roman Numeral freaks out there – in the new 1.6 billion dollar Meadowlands Stadium.  It’s in New Jersey.  In February.  Outside.  With no roof. NFL owners voted Tuesday to put the 48th Super Bowl in the new $1.6 billion Meadowlands Stadium that this season will become home to the New York Jets and New York Giants. It’s the first time the league has gone to a cold-weather site that doesn’t have a dome, and those places couldn’t even bid on the big game until now. OK, I [...]

Bears Minicamp Mania

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Bears wrapped up their minicamp, completing five practices in three days,  on Sunday.  What have we learned?  Let’s see if I can boil it all down for you. TE Brandon Manumaleuna and WR Earl Bennett both had offseason knee surgeries.  Both seem minor, but a couple of points.  First off all, can’t we be informed about these minor procedures without finding out when players are in sweatpants on the sidelines?  And second, didn’t Manu have to pass a physical before signing for big money?  Just sayin’. Tommie Harris is only practicing once on double session days.  I thought he [...]

Congratulations Chicago Blackhawks!

AUTHOR: | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

We interrupt this regularly scheduled Chicago Bears blog to congratulate the Chicago Blackhawks, who just swept the San Jose Sharks en route to the Stanley Cup Finals.  If you’re a regular reader and not a hockey fan, give it a shot. First of all, let me say that if you’re looking for hardcore hockey insight, you’re probably at the wrong website.  Let me refer you to one of the top Chicago Blackhawk bloggers around – Jeff Bartl of FanSided’s own Blackhawk Up.  You want to get some keen insight, he’s  your guy. As for me, I’m a born-again Blackhawks fan.  [...]

Sayers vs Urlacher

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Bears legend Gale Sayers is never one to shy away when asked his opinion.  And neither is the current face of the franchise, Brian Urlacher.  Put those two elements together with a disappointing 2009 season hangover and you’ve got the makings of a old-fashioned showdown at the OK Corral.  Let’s recap, shall we? Back on May 4th, Sayers was quite open regarding his feelings about the 2010 Bears: “Cutler hasn’t done the job,” Sayers said. “(Brian) Urlacher, I don’t know how good he’s going to be coming back. He’s 33 years old. They need a couple wide receivers, a couple [...]
