Happy LeBron Day!
We interrupt this regularly scheduled Chicago Bears blog to say Happy LeBron Day. It’s July 1st and the NBA free agency period is set to get rolling. If you’re a Chicago Bears fan and haven’t followed the Bulls since MJ headed to retirement Washington (did that really happen?), this move is bigger than the Bears getting Jay Cutler and Julius Peppers combined. Who knows, by the time you’re reading this, he could very well already be a Bull. Thinking about LeBron reminded me of a post I did about a year and a half ago. It’s when LeBron’s State Farm [...]
Cedric Benson Arrested, Charged with Assault
The more things change, the more they stay the same. One of my favorite targets has popped up on the Austin, TX blotter once again. That’s right, when you put Austin, blotter and Chicago Bears together, you can only think of one person – Cedric Benson. According to the report out of the Austin American-Statesman, Benson was involved in a May 30th dust-up at a local establishment: Former University of Texas football player Cedric Benson was arrested and charged with assault with injury early today after an incident last month at Annie’s West at 706 West Sixth Street, where officials [...]
Bears Season Preview (Video)
We’re really starting to head into the calm before the storm that is the NFL season. Even the most hard-core coverage dwindles as teams get some final rest before the start of training camp, so news is sparse. Unless you want to know that the Bears are unlikely to go after Shawn Springs or wanted an update on Marty Booker’s real estate transactions, there’s not that much out there. I grabbed a little video montage off YouTube to help fill your Bears void. The DeNiro speech as Al Capone from The Untouchable caught my attention. Check it out: If you [...]
Bears Don’t Really Rank Among Fox’s Top 100 Players
Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager did a ranking of the NFL’s top 100 players. Here’s the setup of his rankings: Ah, the ol’ Schrager Top 100 list, an annual summer tradition on FOXSports.com. If you’re not familiar, here are the rules: 1. Which player would I rather have on my team? 2. Which player would make the most impact on my team? 3. Which player will be the best in 2010, specifically? Some other things to keep in mind: Incoming rookies are not eligible (Mr. Suh, my apologies) and I didn’t include any kickers or punters (my bad, Shane Lechler). I [...]
18-Game Schedule Question Answered
Neil Hayes does a weekly mailbag segment on the Sun Times’ Inside the Bears blog. Yours truly felt compelled to ask a question. Neil felt compelled to answer and even included the spiffy picture of the Commish in his repsonse: Q: The current 16 game schedule is very structured. You play six games vs. your division opponents, four versus an NFC division (NFC East for Bears), four versus an AFC division (AFC East for Bears) and then the same-place finishers in the other conference divisions (3rd place in NFC West and NFC South for the Bears this season). If the [...]
Bears Miss Out as Bulger Heads to Ravens
For all you Bears fans out there who thought that Marc Bulger would be the ideal veteran backup to Jay Cutler, you’d better start working on Plan B. Or C. Marc Bulger has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens on a 1-year deal that will reportedly pay $3.8 million. Bulger will be the insurance policy in case Joe Flacco can’t build on a successful 2009 campaign. He’ll be competing with Troy Smith and John Beck to be Joe’s backup. Why couldn’t Mike Martz deliver his former quarterback to the Bears? If it seems like he’s resigned himself to be [...]
Urlacher Goes Hollywood (TMZ Video)
Brian Urlacher was excused from the final day of Bears’ OTA’s to film a commercial for NBC’s Sunday Night Football with Faith Hill. Not a bad way to spend a day at the office, right? Reports also indicate that Url was on the set of “Entourage” to film a scene for the HBO hit show. So Brian went all Hollywood on us. Ashton Kutcher was all excited. He got to have dinner with Urlacher. Think he was excited? Check out these tweets: Just had dinner with Brian Urlacher. Now I know what a 13 yr old girl feels like after [...]
Alex Brown is Not Welcomed at Halas Hall
Alex Brown decided to do the old pop in at Halas Hall and surprise his ex-teammates and coaches. Well the biggest surprise was for old AB, who was escorted out of the building! Check this out from his Twitter feed. First we get the teaser: Then we get the big disclosure: Then we get the exclamation point: With a “Who Dat!!” at the end to boot! Thanks for all your hard work and help through the years, but get the f*ck outta here!
